While looking for Anna Maria Island accommodations, you might wonder, how will I get around? There’s no better way to do so than by bicycle while enjoying some fresh ocean air. Anna Maria Island is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast just south of Tampa Bay. You can easily rent a bicycle on site at Mello on the Beach and get ready to explore the many things to do on Anna Maria Island. If you get tired while on your adventure, you can catch a ride back on the free trolley that runs around the island (bike rack included) and head back to your Anna Maria Island rental.
Here’s a quick rundown of some of the best bike paths to check out while you’re here!
Coquina Beach Bike Path
Coquina Bike Path is an easy-to-navigate path that follows the shoreline at the southern end of Anna Maria Island in Bradenton Beach. The path is five miles long and offers stunning views of the turquoise blue waters that adjoin Anna Maria Island. Visit Coquina Beach, where you can soak up the sunshine while you lounge on the sandy beach or swim in the warm, tranquil waters. The beach is open from sunrise to midnight, has free parking, and offers visitor amenities like cabanas, concessions, grills, bathrooms, and picnic tables. From May 1 to October 31, Coquina Beach is home to sea turtles nesting on the beach. Give them space and avoid using bright lights on the beach after dark.

Bradenton Beach Bike Path
Located on the southern end of Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach has numerous bike paths for you to explore. You can admire the historic Spanish architecture and scenic ocean views. The paths along the water are stunning in the evening when you can watch the sunset over the Gulf Of Mexico. Many roads that run through Bradenton Beach also have bike lanes for your convenience, although you should use caution when cycling with traffic (always bike with the flow of traffic and not against it). Bradenton Beach offers delicious Anna Maria Island restaurants and fun shops when you’re ready for a break from your bicycle tour.
Parks & Preserves
Easily accessible from Anna Maria Island, the beautiful Robinson Nature Preserve encompasses a sprawling 487 acres of coastline and Florida wetlands redeveloped from former farmland. The 7.5 miles of bike trails are mostly paved, although you will find some sandy spots and others with boardwalks. If you’re up for a challenge, consider climbing the observation tower for views of historic Fort DeSoto, a string of five keys where you can bike, hike, swim at the beaches, and more. You can also camp, hike, and kayak through the preserve.
Located just outside Bradenton, Lake Manatee State Park offers 6.5 miles of trails that traverse a variety of native ecosystems, including sand pine scrubs and Flatwoods. Watch for wildlife, as you might see a fox, bobcat, or even an eagle while riding around!
Remember: it’s Florida law that you must ride on the right side of the road and use hand signals to indicate your turns. Helmets are required by law for any riders under the age of 16.
